Yellowstone and 8 years!! (finally!)

Well, our trip to Yellowstone National Park this year was our 8th trip together as a couple and it was certainly different than any other trip. We certainly couldn't stay out as late as we wanted or just hop in and out of the car to look at anything we wanted. Colton certainly LOVED being outside, so much so that we had meltdowns (refusing to bend to be put in carseat, etc) whenever we got in the car after being outside even for a few minutes! But he sure had fun being outside! He also started to walk really well while we were there and now there is no stopping him!!

Well, sometimes he was entertained in the carseat, but not for long! And who could blame the little guy? Takes 3 hours to get from the airport and then driving around the park takes time too. Not to mention the ordeal of having to land in another city on our way into MT, then trying to figure out the best way to get where we needed to with a 1 year old who was DONE with being on airplanes!

The weather was totally crazy, in the 70s vs the 50s we usually have. So we were a bit warm and didn't get to break out our fun winter gear like we wanted. Brigette even asked if we should bring a pair of shorts, only to be laughed at by Justin...:-) We think the weather was also the reason there were a lot fewer elk in Mammoth Hot Springs than usual this time of year (which is why we come/stay there!).

Pretty Scenes:

Lower Falls of Yellowstone (was a tad windy)

Hard to see but this is a helicopter that just picked up a load of water from the river and is taking it to a nearby fire. Was really interesting to see!

Animals:

Elk

Grizzly Bear (We saw this bear on the road side for about 2 hours. We took turns watching it as we did not want to get too close with Colton. He was oblivious and played with a stick in the dirt the whole time. )

Look! Wild idiots!! You know you are too close to the bear when you end up in photos of other people who are trying to get a picture of the wild animal. This is not a petting zoo!! Geez!!

Bison:

Elk across the way from our cabin in Mammoth:

Another day, another elk!

Family fun!!
This backpack was great for us and Colton and went more places than a stroller could!! Course it seemed to be 'hard work' for Colton as he fell asleep on several hikes!

He looks like a broken doll!!

Handsome little man!!

Hey, I'm reading over here!

Brig and Colton dancing!

Nice picnic spot!

Let me just adjust this so I can see better...

Roadside picnic:

You can't catch me!

Facinating rock outside our cabin. Spent a lot of time here!

Yummy!

There are Elk across the street. Obviously it is not very exciting for Colton.

Poppa is watching the elk...

This is WAY more fun than elk watching!

Makeshift highchair and meals on the cabin porch!

Our little monkey!

The end!! Came too fast for us but we can't wait til next year!!
(BTW, we took the entering and leaving sign photos the same day as Colton was asleep when we entered and left but woke up right before we really left so we took advantage of the signs being back to back!) :-)

8 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
We celebrated our 8 year wedding anniversary the beginning of October! We had a nice date night and Colton spent his first night away from his parents! We had a lovely dinner and were going to see a movie but really there wasn't anything good out we wanted to see. So we rented some good movies we missed, went home and put on PJs, made homemade (yes from scratch on the stove) popcorn, and enjoyed a nice, quiet night home together. We also really enjoyed our uniterupted sleep. Colton's grandmother, however, did not enjoy one as Colton got up 3 times that night!! Oh well, we appreciated the time alone but we did miss our little guy!!

More posts pending with some fun videos and Halloween pictures!!

14 months old and heading to Yellowstone!

Okay, these pictures are not from our trip since we haven't left yet BUT we are excited about taking Colton on his first of many trips to MT and WY and, of course, Yellowstone National Park!

These pictures are from last weekend when Poppa was moving the lawn and Brigette and Colton were enjoying a rare breezy afternoon in the shade. Tearing up tiny pieces of grass. All very exciting as you can tell!

This little smirk is going to be trouble....

Watching Poppa mow was enthralling!

SWEET profile!

I think Poppa needs me to come help!

I need you to hold this for me, PLEASE!

Colton's current favorite game is "Sike!" As in, "Here Mummy, have this toy (puff, fuzz, whatever) that I am holding out for you and smiling sweetly." "SIKE!" as he yanks it back out of reach and giggles like mad. "Oh, I was just kidding, I really want you to have it. Here, I am passing it to you again, but for real this time...SIKE!" Hahahahaha. Actually it is REALLY funny. Will try to get it on video. What is so funny is that prior to his obsession with doing this, we really did not do this 'game' with Colton, so he is just a comedian all on his own. :-)

Hopefully we'll have Yellowstone pictures to post next!

Sad news

Colton's Great-Grandma Y passed away this week. We are so glad Colton was able to meet her this summer and get some good great-grandma hugs. She will be greatly missed.
