One Year Old!!

Happy Birthday Colton!! WOW! A whole year since we first met our wonderful son! Seems like he just got here and now he's already moving into toddler status!!

Things Colton is doing these days:
Still not walking on his own (still 'cruising' everywhere holding on to things just barely) but will stand up from seated position and stands for a while on his own. Will even squat down to pick up something and stand back up. He will walk if you hold is fingers but takes this hilarious GIANT steps.

Chatting all the time but not speaking English just yet. :-) Colton will say "Mum" when he is upset or hungry and sometimes will say "Poppa" if prompted, but doesn't usually call out to us on his own. He also seems to be saying "Uh-oh" randomly as Brigette's mother apparently says that to him a lot.

Still pointing at everything and wanting you to tell him all about it. Loves to speed crawl away from you and have you chase him. He will turn around and see if you are coming and might even just fall over so you can get him! He likes to crawl to the hall bath and then peak back out to see if you are looking. When he is eating in his chair, sometimes he likes to put a puff down by his leg and giggle like crazy. He might drop the puff on the floor for fun OR yank his hand back up and eat the puff and giggle even more.

It is SO wonderful to come home either from work or being out and see his excited face and his speed crawl over anything in his way to great us when we return to the house.

His new favorite book (birthday present) is Eight Silly Monkeys. Brigette sings it to him at night before bed and he starts dancing along, laughing and waving his hand in the air (he likes to 'raise the roof' all on his own). Another favorite book is Cuddles the Cow and he loves to point out the sun and the cows. He really seems to enjoy reading and we love to read to him!

Birthday details:

For his actual birthday, Brigette made carrot cake muffins with sweetened whipped cream on top. This was the first time Colton had anything like this, both the muffin and anything sweetened with sugar. He did eat a little but had more fun just playing with the muffin and icing and making a mess! At one point he started trying to put the muffin back together, which was pretty funny!

Aftermath:

Opening gifts (notice the new outfit since this is after dessert)

Uncle Eric gave him this neat Buzz Lightyear toy and everyone is excited to watch it!

We had Colton's birthday barbeque party at Stone Mountain Park. It was warm out but actually one of the more mild days we have had lately so we were really lucky with the weather and didn't melt too badly.

Love his "1" shirt!!

Brigette made a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting for this party. Might as well have put the icing on a box as he never even touched the cake due to the awesome melty cream cheese frosting (a bit warm outside for icing)! I wish we had videotaped Colton enjoying his birthday cake at his party because it was HILARIOUS! But these pictures show the majority of what was happening.

The Before:

How we ended up with icing in the hair. Thanks Poppa!

The action shots:

Taste test:

We tried to take the plate away once and he got very mad and held onto the plate with both hands, pulling back and grunting! So we just let him have the cake until he knocked it onto the ground.

The After:

Love this face while striping the frosting clothes off:

Why am I the only one without clothes? (check out the cream cheese mohawk)

Opening gifts (done prior to cake for obvious reasons):

The Y grandparents and grandkids!!

Colton wasn't too sure about the pine straw on the ground and would crawl to the edge of the blanket and check it out.

Colton's oldest cousin, Katy Grace, called him "Baby Colton" for quite a while, but even she has dropped the "baby" and just calls him Colton now. Here is an adorable picture of the two of them at Colton's birthday party! She was feeding him puffs and he was trying to feed her also and then he decided he needed a hug! TOO CUTE!

We are a bit off with posting, as per usual. Too many photos taken this month that we had to weed through and upload to share. We have all been sick this month also and that has certainly been slowing us down a bit.

Why can't you update the blog faster?! I will have to whip out some baby gang signs!

Please keep my dear friend Meaghan and her early arrival, sweet baby Bella in your thoughts and prayers as they wait for her to come home. Check Bella's progress here:

Baptism, Fourth of July and First Hair Cut!!

Sure has been a busy month!! Colton is speed crawling and cruising all over the house. He is standing alone a lot more and is just about ready to take off on his first steps! We'll be in trouble then for sure!!

How cute are these TOES?!!

Apparently they taste good too!

Colton loves you to 'get' him! He will roll over on your leg and tilt his head back at you so you know he wants to play. It is adorable and how could you not give in and play?!

Bath time outside at Brigette's parents' house. Super white baby alert!

BAPTISM
Colton was baptized in early June. He did really well considering he had to make it through all of the service and it was roasting hot at the church. He tried to get into the holy water (guess he really needed to be dunked!) but it mostly went without a hitch! Took forever to schedule due to our schedules and Christmas/Easter holidays when they don't do baptisms (during Advent and Lent).

Separation Anxiety
Justin went to Colorado in mid-June for Birdalone's wedding reception and since then, Colton seems to be displaying a little separation anxiety, especially from Justin. Justin usually drops him off at daycare in the morning and although he adores his teachers, lately he has been crying and holding onto Justin's leg when he is trying to leave. :-( Hopefully it won't last too long!

TEETH

Colton has had his bottom two teeth for about 2 months. He is still nursing and we've had a few minor biting issues but nothing major. However, he is getting a tooth in on the top and I believe that might be the demise to nursing as I have already been accidentally bit a few times and it is horrible!! He might be able to learn to not bite, but not sure if I can take the time to teach that lesson!! We will go a bit longer if we can, although I am not interested in going til a child can ask to be nursed or anything!! Going a full year of full time nursing has been rough (time consuming to say the least) but we are really glad we were able to stick it out and hope that Colton will benefit in the long term from the health benefits of nursing. Not to mention all the money we saved on formula and bottles!! We have to wash dishes all the time for just my pumping stuff and the bottles for daycare, I cannot imagine how much worse it would have been if he was using bottles full time!

FOURTH OF JULY and FIRST HAIRCUT
We hiked up Stone Mountain that morning. It was unusually cool for July, but was getting warm by the time we made it. We stopped by Brigette's parents house on the way home and decided to cut Colton's hair! Justin did the duty and a very good job. Just cut the pieces over the ears as they were getting pretty long and out of control. Miss pushing it behind his ears now though! He looks like a dashing little boy with his new hair!
