18 weeks and weird baby comparisons!!

So, got back our recent blood tests for possible risk factors for baby concerns and everything was negative so very good news!

The baby is somewhere between the size of a Soda can and a grapefruit, the grapefruit supposedly being bigger than the can. ?

Last week one site said baby was the size of a beanie baby and I have one in my office and just ran around the office with it saying, "My baby is this big!!" Course, then I was wondering where the heck it was hiding if it is that big. I think they meant it was the size of a beanie baby without legs, or with it's legs folded up. I'm not sure who comes with these comparisons. Another website said the baby was the size of a sweet potato, which sounds cute until you see the picture they used, it seems to have hair:

18.5 weeks Belly shot:

Still able to wear nomal clothes, but cold weather sweaters and such help a lot. I have given up wearing belts though, as they cut off my ability to breathe. :-) Thank goodness for low rise jeans! I'm thinking I should get some shopping done soon for at least a few pairs of pants because I doubt mine are going to make it soon.

Justin and I did a hospital tour to one of the two hospitals we can choose on Sunday before the Super Bowl. It was pretty neat. We got to see two newborns while we were there, including one where the family had just arrived to see her through the nursery glass. Poor thing was HUGE! Over 9 lbs and long! She had a head full of hair and looked way older than being her first day. I don't wish a c-section on anyone, but was happy to hear her mother did not have to push her out. We were one of the only couples on the tour who were not about to pop, so we wondered if people were thinking we were just there for fun. We also got to see the 'baby photo kiosk' which was pretty cool actually. :-) We had a nice lunch at our favorite spot, DePalmas, and then headed home for the game. Well, Justin watched the game and Brigette took the time to put some pictures she has had in a box since we moved to GA in 1995 into a photo album. No nice scrapbooking, as was the intention (13 years ago!!!!) but they are consolidated into an album for viewing pleasure and out of the box we've been moving around the house for 6 years. Have some more pictures in boxes to clean out that she was hiding in Baby Y's closet that Justin is making her clean out. :-) It is time, it is time for procrasitnator crafter Brigette to move on. :-)

Brigette is heading down to FL this weekend with her folks for the R family reunion. Quick trip, driving down Friday and flying back Saturday night, but it will be really nice to see Eric and all the R family she hasn't seen in years. Will finish packing Sunday for our YELLOWSTONE trip! We are SO excited!! If you want to try to spot us while we are there, or just catch a glipse of the fun we are having, check out these webcams:

Sample of winter at Old Faithful Geyser:

Monday we have a "special" doctor's appointment. Then we head out on our Yellowstone Adventure! We'll certainly have some wonderful pictures to share from our winter wonderland trip when we return. Have a great weekend!!

16 weeks and snow day!

Well, Baby Y and the family had a busy and fun weekend. Brigette was on Furlough on Friday, which sucks for our bank account but was enjoyed as much as possible. Baby Y went to it's first concert Friday night: Bryan Adams! Solo acoustic performance in at Atlanta Symphony Hall--Christmas gift from Justin. It was FANTASTIC!! He is so great live! And if you don't know who he is, I just don't know what is wrong with you. :-) Love my 80's music superstars!

Saturday morning, when it was about 19 degrees in the Atlanta area, Justin, Brigette and her parents went and played in the snow! Snow in middle GA?! Yep! We went snow tubing at Stone Mountain Park's "Snow Mountain" http://www.snowmountainpark.com/ . Camera man forgot to charge the battery so we didn't get all the good snow shots we wanted but here we are waiting to go. It looks like we are just way over dressed for a ride at Wet n' Wild in Orlando.

Arial Shot of the 400 foot Snow Tubing area and one a little closer:

It was actually a lot of fun and we got 6 runs in before our 2 hour time slot was up. If anyone in the area is planning to go, I'd recommend going on a cold morning and during the first time slot. The next time slot had way more people than our group did. The "lift" breaks down all the time so we had to carry our tubes up the hill several times, which got a little tiring, but actually made the line move faster as the lift goes very slowly up the hill while you stand still. All in all, good practice for our winter trip next month to Yellowstone!! The low last night there was -9!

So Baby Y is 16 1/2 weeks old now! Monday Brigette was off work for MLK day and Justin came to the doctor's appointment and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time! It was very fun! Well, that part was fun, getting blood drawn wasn't as enjoyable for Brigette. Then Brigette did a little maternity clothes shopping. Got some great deals for under $5 in the plus/women's size section at Target. Target actually has a maternity section, which consisted of about 2 racks of clothes. The rest of the clothes in the section were actually plus sized clothes, which I'm sure is really annoying for people shopping in that area!

I'm supposed to start feeling the baby move pretty soon, but I don't think I have yet. Will keep you updated when it happens! Right now the current pregnency issue is that my resting heart rate seems really fast to me (not concerning to the Dr's though or my blood pressure). Mostly annoying when I try to go to sleep and seems like my heart is racing. Doctor says it is common for pregnant women to have a higher heart rate, but it still seems really odd to feel my heart pounding while I'm trying to sleep.

15 Weeks and photos!!

Wow! 15 weeks (and 4 days) already!! Feeling good. No longer nauseous. The oddest side effect of pregnancy for me has been unnecessary belching. All the time really, but seems happen the most at night and when I'm trying to go to sleep. Very romantic. :-) Justin also reports that I am out-of-character snippy these days. I, of course, think he is exaggerating. :-)

Had a fun weekend, hiked up Stone Mountain, had a nice date night, did some "gender neutral" bargain baby shopping, and went shopping for a few things for our first winter trip to Yellowstone. Decided to try to make the trip we have been wanting to take for a few years now, before the baby arrives and before I'm too big to enjoy myself. Planning to hit the snowy wonderland mid-February. Very excited!

So here is the first belly shot. I'm pretty sure it is mostly chub that was already there that is being pushed out, but since I can no longer suck it in, I'll blame it on the baby.

Here are the first baby pics from my November appointment.

This is from my December appointment. Baby Y would not be still so this really looks like a whole lot of nothing:

And I wanted to share something funny I found when checking out the local hospitals while deciding where to have our baby. Neither hospital has someone in house that takes nursery photos, but they have a do-it-yourself option. Check out the baby photo kiosk:

Hee hee! Just wheel your baby up to the kiosk and an overhead camera can take their picture! Then you just email friends and family! You can also upload your own pictures at this kiosk. It is actually a really neat idea but seemed so funny to me when I found it. I can just see a line of new mothers, in their bathrobes, waiting in line with babies in bassinets to take pictures.

Hope you are all well!! More soon!

2009: The Year of Baby Y!!

Can't belive this will be the year we become parents!! We have certainly been enjoying being 'just married' for the past 6 years but we are excited about our growing family!

Hope you all had a wonderful New Year's Eve and Day! Justin and I celebrated at home with take out from our favorite restaurant in Athens (Depalmas), a good movie, and sparkling grape juice. Well, that was just for me as Justin hates it and we don't drink, so he had some root beer. On New Year's Day, I got to enjoy breakfast in bed.

Pregnancy Details (this section is really long!)
Since I have kept it a secret for so long, people have been asking about the details, so I'll fill that in. New Year's day officially starts my second trimester, my 14th week. Yes, I have been nauseous! Thankfully, I have not had to throw up but have definitely had queasy stomachs for the first 10 weeks or so. Even to the point of eating saltine type crackers, which I hate. I rarely eat breakfast so I have had to start making myself "eat good for the baby" in the mornings and that certainly helped the queasiness. I believe I am over it now and I am very glad about that! I still am getting gagged when I brush my teeth though...:-P

Food issues: CRAVINGS? The only one I can think of is that I was wanting sushi for several weeks. Now I do not actually eat raw fish sushi usually, I like smoked salmon/cream cheese (The Bagel Roll-I'm salivating thinking of it now) and cooked fish like shrimp tempura, etc. According to my internet baby sources, I am not supposed to eat smoked fish, which I think makes me want it more. After I told the gang at work, a few of us went for sushi the next day and it was very yummy but it was still sad that I couldn't have my bagel roll. When we stayed with my parents over the Christmas holidays, Justin brought items to have lox and bagels for breakfast. I cooked my smoked salmon in the toaster oven and it was very yummy. BUT, that brings me to the next issue: SMELL. My taste buds are a little off but my sense of smell is greatly increased and after eating 1 1/2 parts of the salmon bagel...I had to move it out of my sight/smell. I have been sensitive to smells but thankfully nothing is really making me ill. For example, one night we were watching TV and I kept smelling peanut butter and chocolate and I thought it was a very strong smell. No one else was smelling it. I looked around and spied an unopened, cellophane sealed box of butterfingers was on the floor next to me. Everyone thought I was wacky. Now, if I could only use this power for monetary gain in some way....

Fatigue: I have had a few very tired days, but not too bad. I was very tired on Monday night, but that is probably due to being on the elliptical at the gym for 25 minutes. That is a rough 25 minutes!! I have had a few extra nap requirements and I have always hated getting up in the morning, but it does seem worse. That is supposed to be getting better in my second trimester, so we shall see. Yes, I am trying to keep up exercising while I'm pregnant. Justin has been doing great over the past year, losing weight and is in good shape and I've not been doing too bad. We are still hiking to the top of Stone Mountain when we can. We went last weekend and on the way up I was asking Justin how long he thought I could keep hiking to the top. On the way down, I realized the likelihood is that I will have to stop hiking not due to my size/girth but rather my need to pee and the only bathrooms are located at the bottom and top of the mountain. I went before we left the house, when we got there, when we got to the top, and had to go on the way down, but was easily able to wait til we reached the bottom. Doesn't help that exercising makes me thirsty and I have to drink on the hike. I think the egg-sized baby is somehow creating more urine than usual. Anyhow, excessive urine production will likely end my hiking ability before my size or future swollen feet will.

Foot Injury: Some of you know, but about a week after we 'officially' knew I was pregnant, I started having some pain in my right foot that quickly got worse to the point that it was swelling so bad I could hardly walk and had to buy a pair of slip on boots two sizes too big to have something to wear! I went to a family orthopedist and it is always enjoyable to hear, "What the heck is that?" after the doctor sees your xrays (yes, I did have a total of 4 xrays while cooking this baby so when it has a 3rd arm I know it will be my fault). He took the xrays to 2 other doctors who also had no idea what it was either. It looked like some type of growth on the top of my foot, next to the bone on the second to last toe. Basically, it probably needed to be removed, but due to being pregnant nothing could really be done to fix the problem until after delivery. This issue made it a little difficult to keep our secret because, to quote my brother, "Why don't they cut it out and find out what it is?!!" I was very upset after hearing that, a little hysterical crying at first. I mean, I knew I was going to be wobbling around down the road as I got bigger anyhow and I couldn't even walk without great pain (getting up to go the bathroom at night was awful, even with the cane I was walking with at the time). I also was very upset that I wouldn't be able keep active like I was hoping to do during pregnancy. My foot actually got quite a bit worse after seeing the doctor. I decided to see a recommended podiatrist, hoping he might have seen this before or give me some additional ideas for pain management or foot care that might help. That is where I did the second baby zapping xrays (actually, I was covered very well with the lead apron and you probably get more scatter radiation from your TV and microwave). About 5 days had passed between xrays and they looked totally different. What was a solid mass seemed to now be in a few small pieces. The new doctor had no clue what it actually was either. :-) I am a mystery. However, he wanted to treat it like a fracture and gave me a fabulous walking cast to wear for 3 weeks. My medical opinion is this: I was growing a bone spur on this area of my foot this summer (same area was hurting some this summer, but went away so I thought I just bruised it or something-learning point: always check out weird pains!!) and then it settled into a position that didn't hurt and was fine. Then sometime in November I bumped it or something and it was irritated and then the spur fractured-causing the severe pain and swelling. THANKFULLY, after a few days of wearing the far from fashionable $130 boot, the pain was totally gone and the swelling almost entirely subsided. I wore the boot as I was told for the 3 weeks but it probably wasn't necessary. Anyhow, went back on 12/16 and doctor felt sure it was a fracture of a bone spur that was healing itself. So I was off the boot, allowed to exercise as comfortable, come back in July to re-evaluate, wear boot if starts up again. There is still a lumpy spot on the top of my foot that he said is just a little swelling from the irritation. It is a little icky looking but I am feeling SO much better. I will say I did wear my boot to the gym and rode the bike several times, so I didn't feel like a total bump on a log. Please keep my foot in your prayers so that I can make it through July without any additional problems. Here is a lovely shot of me in my cast from Thanksgiving:

Sharing our secret

The word is out! We have finally told our families. I actually told people at work and my Bunco group before our families!! No one can believe we kept the secret for so long. It was just too close to Christmas to not wait. Justin also told several customers who always ask him about having kids when he goes to their homes. Thankfully they didn't tell anyone at the office.

At work, we had a holiday unit meeting at a supervisor's house on 12/18 for the people in my section. We usually play a triva game, trying to guess who the trivia is about. When it came to my trivia, "This person is pregnant," I played along and guessed people also. It was fun when someone finally guessed me! One of my sweet co-workers was worried the supervisor in charge was outing someone's secret and kept asking, "Are you allowed to be doing this?!" It was pretty funny.

The Y Family Reveal:
We celebrated Christmas with Justin's family on Sunday 12/21. I hid a gift and after everyone opened gifts (which took forever with so many people), I got out the hidden gift and gave it to Justin's dad to open and told everyone to come see his gift. Here is the great video:

And here is the actual gift Rick was opening (if you click on picture it opens larger in another window):

The L Family Reveal:
We didn't tell Brigette's parents until Christmas morning. We spent the night at their house Christmas Eve, went to Midnight church service, slept in and had a good time. We even made our first batch of Hooiser Goodies-Thanks for the help Melanie, they were perfect!!

Again, we opened all our lovely gifts and held the last present for the very end to have Brigette's parents open together. Here is the classic, "What the heck is this about?" video:

Here is the gift they got:

Hope you all had a Very Merry Christmas too!! More to come! Hope you stay posted for the "developing" fun!
